With auto insurance, whether Personal Auto or Commercial Auto, the request for "liability only" is a common request. But what does that mean? What is "liability only"? What that means to me may not be what it means to you.
States have minimum liability limit requirements, but are those limits enough? Often times, they are not enough to cover the cost after an accident. And, you are responsible for damage you cause even if your insurance limits aren't high enough to cover. You can be expected to pay the rest out of pocket.
State insurance laws require you carry Bodily Injury and Property Damage on your vehicle insurance. Some feel that must be what's needed for "liability only". Yes, that would be one scenerio of coverage that is considered liability only. But there are many other options available that would still be considered a liability only policy.
What I feel is most important, is that you know what coverage you have and what it covers in the event of a loss. You need to be comfortable with the limits you carry. At the time a loss occurs is not when you want to learn that you don't have the coverage you had thought. Know what to expect if the unexpected happens.
Is your auto insurance enough? There's no better time to schedule a review and know that you know your coverage. Happy & Safe Travels!
